AA_Lumiere-Award_Best-3D-Hollywood_Black copy-LRToronto, Ontario – February 12, 2018 – SK Films is thrilled to announce that Amazon Adventure won the highly prestigious ‘Best 3D Documentary Motion Picture’ Lumiere Award at Hollywood’s Advanced Imaging Society awards presentation in Los Angeles. The Lumiere awards honour outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies.

“We are honoured to be singled out for our commitment the highest quality 3D films, and proud to share this achievement with our talented and passionate team,” said Jonathan Barker, CEO of SK Films and the film’s lead Producer. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to entertain and engage audiences – especially young people – with the fascinating world of mimicry in the biodiverse Amazon and to bring Henry Bates’ adventure story and his important scientific discoveries to IMAX® and other screens around the world.”

“It has been a great privilege and a wonderful experience to work with SK Films and the dedicated Amazon Adventure team on bringing this very important and inspiring story to audiences all over the world,” said Sean B. Carroll, Executive Producer of the film and VP of Science Education for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. “It is very gratifying to see their tireless commitment to making the highest quality films recognized.”

Amazon Adventure tells the epic, true story of explorer Henry Bates’ fascinating 11-year journey through the visually stunning Amazon rainforest as a young man who risks his life for science in the 1850s. Bates is largely unknown, yet he provided the specimen proof to Darwin for the greatest explanation of the development of life on earth.

SK is pleased to share this award with film’s other Co-producers – Picture Projects (UK) and Aventuras Produções (Brazil) – as well as the film’s major supporters, including the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/Tangled Bank Studios and the Pacific Science Center, which brought support to the project from the U.S. Government’s National Science Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the Simons Foundation. The film also had support from Foxconn Brasil and Vale.

This award adds to the near clean sweep of all film awards from the Giant Screen Cinema Association and the European Lumiere Award for Best Large Format Film.
