SK works across many different genres and platforms, including theatrical, television and digital media, with a special emphasis on creating high impact natural history and science related content. In 2023 SK Films is celebrating it’s 25thanniversary and has a longstanding reputation as one of the most accomplished and respected producers and distributors supplying 3D, 2D and Dome product to IMAX® and other Giant Screen theatres around the world.
SK was founded in 1998 in partnership with IMAX® co-founder Robert Kerr by Jonathan Barker, one of the most experienced executives in the worldwide Giant Screen industry and one of Canada’s most accomplished film and television executives. The company is led by CEO Wendy MacKeigan, who has over 30 years of experience in the industry, with an emphasis on feature film.
SK works with the top Giant Screen filmmakers, world leaders, leading scientific experts and prestigious institutions and museums to bring quality projects to the market.
Current partnerships and relationships include those with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/Tangled Bank Studios, BBC Earth, Ducks Unlimited, Audubon, The California Science Center, American Museum of Natural History and The Science Museum in London.
SK is focused on quality and has won all of the top awards in the Giant Screen industry.
Our films have won over 40 Giant Screen Cinema Association Achievement Awards, including the first-ever clean sweeps of all of the GSCA’s film, distribution and education awards for Flight of the Butterflies, and once again in 2022 for Antarctica. SK Films is currently in distribution on their latest Giant Screen releases Blue Whales, in partnership with NSF & Tangled Bank Studios, Arctic and Antarctica in partnership with BBC Earth as well as Wings Over Water in partnership with the McGraw Foundation, Ducks Unlimited & Audubon.
