Ready or not, the next phase of the 3D revolution is here and SK Films is more than ready. The CEO of SK Films, Jonathan Barker, has almost 20 years experience producing and distributing 3D films. Jonathan’s first 3D production was the highly successful IMAX film Into the Deep and he is currently producing his fifth 3D film, the highly anticipated Flight of the Butterflies 3D, making him one of a handful of producers in the world with multiple 3D films under his belt. As part of its new business strategy, SK will be shooting expanded television versions of its Giant Screen/IMAX films and will be reviewing with the respective broadcasters the possibility of shooting those television documentaries in 3D, as well including material for online 3D.

With the roll-out of 3D televisions from all the major brands, and dedicated 3D channels proliferating around the world, including Sky in the UK and 3Net, the US joint venture between Sony, Imax and Discovery, amongst others, the need for product is set to explode, and SK Films will be an important player in the field.

Producing and filming in 3D is a very challenging process as it is a highly technical medium with numerous and highly complex variables at every level. Jonathan knows and has worked with many of the leading 3D technical experts, cinematographers and directors in the business including his co-producer on Bugs!: A Rainforest Adventure, Phil Streather. Phil heads Principal Large Format and is another well-known and respected 3D expert who both produces in the medium and regularly presents training programs worldwide. Mike Slee, Director of Bugs! and the up-coming Flight of the Butterflies which is now in Production, is a internationally renowned 3D Director.

There are many important differences to shooting and producing for 3D for different ultimate media and screens sizes, and it requires training, first-hand knowledge and experience in order to produce high quality, audience-pleasing 3D product and to produce on time and on budget. SK Films has the expertise and excellent reputation to meet these challenges.

SK Films is headquartered in Toronto, Canada which has a solid 3D base from equipment supply to production talent through to post-production, with great growth potential.
