SK Films is an award-winning content provider and is a global leader in the IMAX®/Giant Screen industry. The company works across genres and platforms, including theatrical, television and digital media, with a special emphasis on creating high impact natural history and science related content, and has a reputation as one of the most accomplished and respected producers and distributors supplying 3D, 2D and Dome product to IMAX and other Giant Screen theatres worldwide.

SK was founded in 1998 in partnership with IMAX co-founder Robert Kerr by Jonathan Barker, one of the most experienced executives in the worldwide Giant Screen industry and one of Canada’s most accomplished film and television executives. The company is now run by Wendy MacKeigan, who has over 25 years of experience in the industry, with an emphasis on feature film.

SK works with world leaders, top scientific experts and industry-leading institutions to bring quality projects to the market; current partnerships and relationships include those with the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Smithsonian Institution, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Pacific Science Center and the Maryland Science Center.

SK is focused on quality and has won all of the top awards in the Giant Screen industry, including a first-ever clean sweep of all of the Giant Screen Cinema Association’s film, distribution and education awards for its last hit, Flight of the Butterflies and is currently in distribution on their latest Giant Screen releases Amazon Adventure, with major support from the NSF, and Backyard Wilderness both with Tangled Bank Studios, a division of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Turtle Odyssey. SK is also committed to developing new talent, and the creators of the company’s documentary television series, The Water Brothers, have had an episode from their fourth season selected for the 2017 Wildlife Conservation Film Festival.

Robert Kerr testing Projector #1

Bob Kerr (August 28,1929 – April 29, 2010) tests IMAX Projector #1 in the early days of the company. Bob Kerr founded IMAX with Graeme Ferguson and Roman Kroitor and jointly led the company, including as CEO, during the company’s phenomenal growth to becoming a household name. After the sale of IMAX, he joined forces with Jonathan Barker to establish SK Films.
